Tarragona: Medieval Tour *

Tarragona's region is full of history dating back to the Roman era. Here is your chance to experience in one tour three very important medieval places: Tarragona, Montblanc and Monastery El Poblet . Tarragona has preserved several major monuments from its mediaeval past. You will meet your guide for a walking tour that will include the city's cathedral , and outstanding examples of art and architecture from the Middle Ages in this gorgeous old town. You will board your motor coach for the picturesque 40-minute drive to Montblanc where you will discover its rich architectural and cultural heritage. You will take a 40-minute walking tour of one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Catalonia. Followed by an hour of freetime for lunch or shopping before reboarding your motor coach for the 15-minute ride to your last stop at the Monastery El Poblet. located within the region of Conca de Barbera, a beautiful setting. It is among the most important monasteries in Europe. In addition to the magnificent church, you will see prominent examples of Cistercian art. In 1991 Monastery El Poblet was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will have a 45-minute tour of the monastery before returning by motor coach to your waiting ship. Please note : This tour is not wheelchair accessible as it involves walking among ruins. Wear comfortable walking shoes.When visiting the monastery knees and shoulders must be covered. Venues are limited on Sundays.Guides will provide explanations about the cathedrals from the outside as they are not able to provide commentary inside.

Ten centuries ago, Cordoba was one of the greatest cities in the world, with a population approaching one million. The Capital of Muslim Spain and the center of the Caliph's power, Cordoba was Europe's largest city as well as a cultural and intellectual sear. Cordoba's hour of greatest glory was when it became the capital of the Moorish kingdom of 'El-Andalus'. You will visit the Great Mosque, or 'Mezquita', which - after several centuries of additions and enlargements became one of the largest in all of Islam. Take a magical walk through the forest of columns, passing beneath its arches and breathing in the history of Arab Cordoba, so brusquely and surprisingly interrupted by the Christian Cathedral set in the center of its vast interior. Continue to the Jewish Quarter and stroll through the quaint, ancient, winding, cobblestone and flower-filled streets. Just a few yards away from the small square Tiberiades - where the monument to the philosopher Maimonides stands - lies one of three surviving pre-inquisition synagogues in Spain. A Mudejar construction dating from 1315, the interior includes a gallery for women looking on to the sanctuary through small balconies, and plasterwork of Hebrew inscriptions. You will have 90 minutes of free time to take the oportunity to taste the local tapas in one of the bars in the area or sightsee before another scenic ride returning to the yacht. Malaga by Segway *

Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina , in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street , the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square , at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church , built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You'll also visit the Roman Theatre , discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Funchal, City Highlights and Cable Car *

You will climb to Monte by cable car. This village located at an elevation of 1,772 feet high was the last residence of Carlos I of Austria, who is buried in the Church of Our Lady of Monte. Finally you will have a 25-minute drive to visit the Old Blandy Wine Lodge in the center of Funchal which acts as an excellent show place for many the finest wines of Madeira. Surrounded by a massive basalt wall almost 984 feet high, Agulo offers a breathtaking view of the nearby island of Tenerife. Embark on a scenic panoramic drive to the west of the island and through the upper region of the Aridane Valley . The area is the highest point of the island and is also home to the charming town of El Paso . Enjoy a little free time to take some photos and admire the town's beautiful surroundings. You'll leave El Paso and take a short drive to the delightful La Glorieta Square. The square is the work of local artist, Luis Morera, who was once a pupil of César Manrique.
