Discoveries await on this in-depth sailing visiting 13 different ports. Explore Southern Japan, once the realm of Ryukyu kings, and currently where mainlanders go for their tropical beach vacations. Ride a water buffalo carriage past walls made of coral in a beautifully preserved Ryukyu village just off the coast of Ishigaki, and dive into local cuisine at Okinawa’s Kokusai Dori food street, where flavors are influenced by Ryukyu kings as well as American GIs. Overnight in three dynamic cities and stay late in others, with time to pursue your interests or let your curiosity lead you — to the Mekong Delta, My Son Sanctuary, Cu Chi Tunnels or a Vietnamese cooking class. Revisit Vietnam’s distant past in Hoi An’s Ancient Town and the Imperial City of Hue, and feel awe in the presence of Angkor Wat — the 12th century complex that’s more than four times the size of Vatican City.

Da Nang, Artisans of Danang

The Marble Mountain area has long been a source of inspiration for Vietnam's artisans, blending the natural beauty of the countryside with unique architectural influences. Your artistic journey begins as you stroll along Da Nang's tree-lined streets on the way to the Cham Museum, an ethnographic facility established in 1939 by the French Ecole Française d'Extrême Orient. The museum showcases original sculptures in four sections based on their origins. Next, your coach will take you seven miles from the city center to the stunning Marble Mountains. Here, you'll enjoy a 45-minute walk around this historic site, where the five peaks represent the five elements of feng shui. During the Cham period, this marble ridge was a Hindu sanctuary, and later, Vietnamese Buddhists built pagodas dedicated to Buddha and Confucius. Today, Buddhist shrines occupy several mountain caves, some of which were bombed during the war. The tour concludes with a visit to the Linh Ung Pagoda, where you'll see a towering Lady Buddha statue facing the sea before returning to the ship.

Da Nang, My Son Heritage Site

Nestled in a lush valley and surrounded by the Hon Quap Mountains, My Son is a stunning archaeological site that was once a Holy Land built in the 4th century. It served as the most important religious and intellectual center of the Champa kingdom, which thrived between the 2nd and 15th centuries. The site, with its towers rising dramatically out of the thick jungle and cut through by clear streams, reflects nine centuries of occupation. Through extensive trade relations with India, the Cham adopted Hinduism and Sanskrit, shaping their sacred culture. The Cham people, lacking agricultural land, relied on piracy and trade, often engaging in wars with the Vietnamese to the north and the Khmers to the west. My Son is considered the Champa culture's equivalent to other grand, Indian-influenced cities in Asia, such as Angkor in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar, Ayutthaya in Thailand, and Borobudur in Java. The Cham are best known for their brick sanctuaries, the Cham Towers and temples dedicated to their kings and various divinities, adorned with intricate carvings. Though heavily damaged by time and the Vietnam War, My Son is slowly being restored, and the remaining monuments evoke a sense of awe and contemplation, standing as striking reminders of this ancient culture.

Okinawa, Bingata Experience

This unique tour not only gives you the opportunity to observe and learn the secrets of the art of Bingata, a multicolored dyeing process used for silk and vegetable fibers, but also allows you to actively participate in making your own creation. Depart the pier by coach for a short drive to Tembusu Naha , where you will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the art of Bingata, originally produced solely for Okinawa's warrior class since the 15th century. Bingata-dyed fabric has been produced in the Ryukyu Islands for centuries, but is believed that the multi-colored dyeing process was originally introduced from southern China. Discover the secrets of this ancient art as you create your very own piece of Ryukyu Bingata, with a complex pattern of alternating light and dark dyes. At the end of this interactive class, you will be able to take home with you your piece of traditional Bingata as a souvenir of your visit. Rejoining your coach, you will travel towards the Shurijyo Castle . This vermilion-colored castle was the seat of power during the 500-year reign of the Ryukyu Kindgom.
