Sites to see include the church of St. Pierre, constructed from the wreckage of ships and the lighthouse which now warns of the offshore shoals.

Cap Aux Meules, Magdalen Island, Island Highlights

Depart from the pier for a short drive to La Vernière wooden church, first built in 1876 and now classified as a historical monument. It is the second largest wooden church in North America and was struck several times by lightning: first in 1900, then in 1945, 1947 and 1980. The wood used in its construction was retrieved from shipwrecks and had to be blessed before the building could be rebuilt. It is an important element of the Madelinot heritage. Visit the site of La Côte, where you will find several boutiques and craftsmen, including the coffeehouse Eva that holds a terrace with a magnificent view on the fishing harbour. For those who want to there will be an opportunity to walk across the street and have access to l'Étang-du-Nord fishing harbor with its magnificent sculpture and park. Then head to the north coast of the island, indented by spectacularly steep and jagged cliffs at Cap Hérissé lighthouse which offers one of the most striking examples of cliffs sculptured by the sea. Every year the Island is losing an average of 2 feet of shore, something the Madelinots worry about. Your excursion includes a stop at l'Abri de la Tempête, which believes in maximum use of local raw materials in the creation of its beers. They use locally grown ingredients to brew their full-flavoured, distinctive beers. You will taste 2 different kinds of their product while enjoying the magnific view on the beach of la dune de l'ouest. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Cap Aux Meules, Magdalen Island, A Taste of Iles De La Madeleine

Start your tour with a visit to the Pied-de-Vent Cheese Factory Come for a typically Madelinot taste experience! Taste and learn why Pied-de-Vent cheeses are so popular. Meet the dedicated artisans and learn about a typical day in the life of a cheese maker. Test your knowledge of cheese and see both vintage and modern cheese making tools. Above all, treat yourself by tasting these Island cheeses. A short drive will take you along Chemin Pointe-Basse, a road peppered with many examples of traditional local architecture: simple houses and barns painted in a variety of bright colors. The Acadian and French origins of many of the Islanders, as well as some New England influences are reflected in the architecture of their homes. Several details are typical of the traditional home: the small enclosed porch, corbel, veranda, and painted or stained cedar shingles. Arrive at Fumoir d'Antan a typical smokehouse, which brings to life this last vestige of what was once a very important industry. This smokehouse has been used for three generations to smoke herring, mackerel, salmon and scallops. You will be able to see the room that was used to smoke herring in the past and today it is transformed into a museum exhibit. You will get to taste mackerel, scallops, herring and salmon. The north coast of the island boasts spectacular steep, jagged cliffs. Cap Hérissé offers one of the most striking examples of cliffs sculpted by the sea. Every year the Islands lose an average of 2 feet of shore, which is very worrying for the locals. A stop at the roadside rest area at Dune du Sud for a chance to appreciate views of the beach and the steep, red cliffs sculpted by the sea. If you wish, you may take a stroll on this lovely stretch of sand and explore one of the nicest beaches of the islands. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

You will take a 30-minute drive to the Apple Orchard Pomeloi, the only one located on the archipelago characterized by a variety of products, smallness and its ecological follow up. The owner, Éloi Vigneau is passionate about agriculture and in 2008, he opened the Orchard and started to produce different ciders, working in harmony with nature, taking advantage of the exceptional yeast produced by fruits grown in salty sea air. The juice is slowly cold-fermented to bring out the finest flavors and aromas to create four elixirs: "l'Enchanteur de pommes," "le Chouchen," "l'Escarbille" and "le Pomeloi" (with an apple in the bottle). Then it's a short 15-minute drive to the Musée de la Mer. The mission of the Musée de la Mer is intimately associated with these maritime and insular people. Next stop will be the historical site of La Grave located on the southwest part of Havre Aubert Islands. This unique historical site with its traditional character and architecture is a fascinating testimonial to the past. Extending over and around its pebble beach, La Grave was the site of the island's first settlement as well as the beginning of the archipelago's fishery. Designated as a historical site by the Minister of Cultural Affairs in 1983, La Grave still fulfills its original purpose as a favorite meeting place. Your last stop will be the Atelier Cotier (Artisans du Sable), a one-of-a-kind studio where sand from the islands is transformed into unique sculptures, sand treasures to forever remind visitors of the beauty of this site. The sand artisan was the founder of the Iles de la Madeleine sandcastle contest that has been held every year in August since 1985. Cap aux Meules, Magdalen Island, Havre aux Maisons Highlights and Bagosse Tasting

Havre-aux-Maisons Island is known for its distinctive, barren landscape, with sparse trees due to extensive lumbering in the past century, and its smooth terrain stands in contrast to the rugged red cliffs that line the coast. Located on one of the archipelago’s most picturesque islands, Havre-aux-Maisons exudes a charming rural atmosphere with winding roads and scattered homes. From here, guests will meet a local alcohol producer at Le Barbocheux, an artisanal winery known for its traditional home-brewed wine, “bagosse,” available in two varieties: strawberry & raspberry and cranberry & dandelion. After a tasting of fortified wine and raspberry liqueur, guests will head to the Dune-du-Sud rest area, where they can explore a beautiful beach sheltered by red cliffs. With plenty of caves and holes to discover, visitors will have time to relax, take a stroll, or swim. Next, the tour continues to the Cap-Alright Lighthouse, offering spectacular views of Plaisance Bay and Entry Island, with the lighthouse itself remaining unchanged since its construction in 1928. Finally, the journey concludes with a visit to Chemin Pointe-Basse, a scenic road lined with traditional local architecture. The brightly colored houses and barns reflect the island’s Acadian, French, and New England influences, with features such as small enclosed porches, corbels, verandas, and painted cedar shingles.
