When your meal is complete and the stars begin to shine, the highlight of this enchanted evening will begin. Fire dancing has long been deeply embedded in the Polynesian culture as a way to send messages to the gods. Raiatea, "The Sacred Island," is located just across the lagoon from Tahaa and shares the same barrier reef. (Legend claims the two were a single island until a conger eel possessed by the spirit of a princess separated them.) It used to be the center of religion and culture in the Society Islands. Taputapuatea, on the southeast coast, was once the most important marae around, the place where kings from the neighboring islands would gather for important ceremonies. Uturoa, the main town, reminds some people of Papeete in its younger days with its quaint low-rise buildings. Raiatea is also home to the only navigable river in the islands, the Fa'aroa. Explore Polynesian history or climb Mount Temehani in search of the rare tiare apetahi flower, which grows only here.

You will head towards the east coast of Tahiti to visit the James Norman Hall House . The home displays the daily environment of this poet and writer of American contemporary literature. Enjoy a local delicacy before you continue on to Matavai Bay , and reach Venus Point , the historic landing site for most European discoverers and evangelists. Raiatea, "The Sacred Island," is located just across the lagoon from Tahaa and shares the same barrier reef. (Legend claims the two were a single island until a conger eel possessed by the spirit of a princess separated them.) It used to be the center of religion and culture in the Society Islands. Taputapuatea, on the southeast coast, was once the most important marae around, the place where kings from the neighboring islands would gather for important ceremonies. Uturoa, the main town, reminds some people of Papeete in its younger days with its quaint low-rise buildings. Raiatea is also home to the only navigable river in the islands, the Fa'aroa. Explore Polynesian history or climb Mount Temehani in search of the rare tiare apetahi flower, which grows only here.

Raiatea: Kayak the Faaroa River

Discover the pristine natural beauty of Raiatea along the same route as New Zealand's Maohi settlers took during this unique kayak adventure on the Faaroa River . Depart the pier and drive to the Faaroa River, the only navigable river in French Polynesia. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety instructions and equipment and then set out in your kayak . Led by your guide, you will begin your tour by paddling gently along the river, beginning in the fjord-like inlet on Raiatea known as the Faaroa Gorge. You will continue up the scenic Faaroa River where you will find the steep river walls lush with jungle foliage and home to diverse species of birds and wild hibiscus purau trees along the sheer cliffs of the rainforest. Following your tour, you will reboard your vehicle for the return drive to the pier and ship. This is truly a peaceful yet active way to appreciate Raiatea's beauty. Please note : This active tour includes approximately 1.75 hours of paddling. Guests must know how to swim and be in good physical condition. Here is an active way to discover the beauty of this lagoon. From Raiatea, meet your guide and walk along the port of Uturoa to the closest beach access. You will receive your safety and operating instructions there. Embark your Waverunner and enjoy your ride! Led by your guide, you will discover the great colors of the lagoon . Along the way, a stop will be made in shallow water for some snorkeling and refreshments. You will then return to the landing site in Uturoa to walk back to the pier. The total Waverunner ride is approximately 85 minutes. Please note : For insurance purposes, each driving participant must be at least 16 years of age. The minimum age to ride as a passenger on this tour is 10 years old. Lifejackets will be provided and must be worn throughout the tour. There is a small storage compartment on the Waverunner, that although waterproof is not 100% guaranteed to be so. Bring individual waterproof bags to protect your items. Like other activities involving high speeds and heavy machinery, riding a Waverunner can be risky. This program is for Certified Divers looking to do a half day of diving (approximately 4 hours).. The typical time underwater for the 2 tank dive is 45 minutes for the first dive, with a long surface interval followed by a second dive of approximately 45 minutes. For guests only wanting a one tank, you can go at the same price and may choose to snorkel or swim while the second dive is going. Dives will take place at the following site (weather dependent). Raiatea: Faaroa River with Motu Beach Break

Raiatea: Coral Garden Drift Snorkeling

Coral Garden Drift Snorkel Approximately 3.5 hours Activity Level: Moderate Ride by covered motorized boat to the west coast of Tahaa to discover the beauty of the island. Put on your water shoes to leave the boat and walk across an uninhabited motu (islet) off the coast. Start your snorkeling experience from the other side of the motu. Your guide will lead you as the current carries you along over shallow corals. There's no stopping along the way through the shallow lagoon and the drift will be done up to 3 times (as time allows). An alternate site may be used depending on the current and water level. The area teems with a spectacular variety of tropical fish and amazing corals. The richness of this coral garden is unique in Polynesia! Meet your guide for an informative & intimate tour by minibus. Drive towards the south of Raiatea. Along the east coast of the island, past the small village of Avera, you will discover the world of pearl farming, visit a little local farmer and appreciate the process of one of the main resources of French Polynesia, a little shopping may be done here (cash only!) Continuing along the Faaroa River you will then reach the district of OPOA where the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site Marae Taputapuatea is located. This site is at the center of the 'Polynesian Triangle,' a vast portion of the Pacific Ocean, dotted with islands, and the last part of the globe to be settled by humans. The property includes two forested valleys, a portion of lagoon and coral reef and a strip of open ocean. At the heart of the property is the Taputapuatea Marae complex, a political, ceremonial and funerary center. As the ancestral homeland of Polynesian culture, Taputapuātea is of outstanding significance for people throughout the whole of Polynesia, for the way it symbolizes their origins, connects them with ancestors and as an expression of their spirituality. After an introductory course on how to use the E-Bike, depart for a guided leisure biking ride towards the east of the island. Your guide will lead you on a thrilling journey to the Belvedere lookout, where you'll capture stunning views of the Bay and Mt. Rotui. The pineapple trail is a well-known route on the island of Moorea. Not a paved road, but easily accessible in an ATV. The route links the island's two main bays: Cook and Opunohu. You'll pass a few houses, but as its name suggests, the pineapple trail crosses a plantation which grows pineapples destined for the Rotui fruit juice factory at the foot of Mount Rotui and for sale in the island's shops and supermarkets. Pineapples are the main fruit grown on the island and their famed sweetness and fruity taste make them perfect for the fruit juice sold under the brand Rotui. The pineapple trail is also an opportunity to discover the luxuriant, dense vegetation in the heart of the island of Moorea. Ride through the island's lush valleys, stopping by a small river to spot eels, and concluding the tour at the ROTUI juice factory for a taste of local flavors. Please note: Drivers must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license. The minimum age for passengers is 6 years. Helmets will be provided and must be worn throughout the tour. ATVs can accommodate two average-sized adults with a maximum combined weight of 440 lbs. As with all creatures in their natural environment, there is no guarantee you will see stingrays, and tickets are non-refundable should a sighting not occur. Guests may remain in the boat, but from there viewing will be limited. Please note : There are some stairs involved so aqua shoes are recommended. Board a 4-wheel-drive vehicle for a ride through Moorea's deep valleys and mountains. In the Paopao Valley you'll pass some pineapple plantations, then cross to the territorial property of Opunohu. A stop at one of the numerous marae (ancient, sacred site) will allow you to learn more about Polynesian culture. Continue to the Belvedere Lookout point for a panoramic view of Cook and Opunohu Bays, weather dependent you will get an impressive panorama from here. Return through the interior trails of the Rotui Mountain and get acquainted with the local flora. A stop on the way will allow you to enjoy a refreshment. Viewpoints will be part of your drive and give you multiple opportunities for photographs. Some of the venues may be closed on weekends and holidays, alternative routes will be used according to availability.
