The scenic colonial town of Qaqortoq is easily seen on foot. Walk to the town square with its gorgeous fountain built of Igaliku rocks. Colorful houses encircle the square and Our Saviour's Church, built in 1832, is nearby. There are many works of art that have been chiseled into the rocks at the sculpture park called "Stone and Man,"  and the local museum full of Nordic artifacts is definitely worth a visit. Another point of interest is the fishing wharf where fresh and dried fish is sold.

Reykjavik: Panoramic Reykjavik & Viking History with Transfer to Airport

This classic city tour takes in all the highlights of Reykjavík. Your journey will begin with a drive through Laugardalur ("Warm Water Valley") where you will pass one of the most popular outdoor geothermal swimming pools . From there the road will lead you to drive past the open-air museum at Árbær . You will, then cross the Ellidaá River, one of the world's cleanest salmon rivers. Eventually you will reach Álftanes Peninsula where the President's residence, is located. Returning to the city you will drive to Perlan, The Pearl with its viewing deck that offers great panoramic views over Reykjavik. You will head towards Hallgrímskirkja, the church that dominates the city skyline with its imposing tower, then drive through the charming old quarter of Reykjavik with its colorful wooden houses and narrow streets , past the University of Iceland complex and along the city pond, Tjörnin. Then you'll reach the old harbor where you'll make a quick stop. Finally you will follow the coastline and make one short stop at Höfdi House where the summit meeting between President Ronald Reagan and Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev was held in 1986. Drive directly to the Viking World Museum to enjoy the delicious Icelandic meat soup before exploring the museum. Then you will be drive to the airport or your waiting hotel. Please note: The order of the itinerary might be reversed if necessary. At the end of the tour guests will be transferred to the chosen Windstar Hotel. Qaqortoq, City Walk

You will start your city walk of Qaqortoq from the harbor. Your guide will take you through the town and share historical and personal knowledge about the Inuit culture , old traditions as well as modern traditions and how it is to life in the Arctic region. The walk will pass the harbor and its fishing industry. Your guide will tell you about the outdoor gallery around town, take you to the churches, talk about the school system and the youth. You will end the tour at the town square and see the first fountain made in Greenland . The walk stops at the museum. From here you can, individually without your guide, visit the museum, go shopping, go for a hike or you can go back to your waiting ship with your guide. Please note : This tour is not appropriate for guests with limited mobility. Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle, and insect repellent. Wear layered clothing that is weather appropriate and bring local currency.

Qaqortoq, Boat Tour to the Viking Ruins & Hvaslo Church Ruins

Eric the Red came to Greenland for the first time in year 982 and returned with 14 ships in year 985. He settled in the settlement, known today as Qassiarsuk. Around year 1300 a church was built in Hvalsø, which is the last place in Greenland, mentioned in the old sagas, a wedding from year 1408 between Thorstein Olafsson and Sigrid Bjørn's daughter. Hvalsø was an important area in the time of the North Men and has today one of the best-preserved churches in Greenland. On this tour you will meet your captain at the harbor and sail from Qaqortoq towards Hvalsø into the fjord around Qaqortoq. The tour to Hvalsø is approx. 25 min. and at Hvalsø you will have approx. 45 min. to search around the area before you head back. You will have time to look around the old ruins of the farms and the best-preserved church ruins of Hvalsø. If you have time, we recommend you sit down close to the church and just enjoy and imagine the Arctic life back in the 1300 hundred. If you have any questions about the area, please ask your captain and he will answer you best way possible. Please note : Wear good hiking shoes. Bring insect repellent, water and a lunch from the ship. Dress according to the weather conditions.

St. Anthony, Viking Experience

Visit the remarkable ancient settlement site of the Norse founded more than 1,000 years ago, at L'Anse aux Meadows , Leif Eriksson, son of Erik the Red, was the first European to set foot on American soil. The Viking originally called his discovery "Vinland." You will tour this finely restored UNESCO outpost guided by local hosts, gaining immeasurable insight into what life was like for the continent's first Norse explorers. See the sod houses, constructed of soil packed over wooden frames, and see evidence of carpentry and ironsmith workshops. You will also learn about the 1960 discovery of the site by the adventurer Helge Ingstad and his wife, archaeologist Anne Stine Ingstad. On your way back to your ship, stop to visit the recreated Viking village of Norstead to learn more about life in these northern reaches 1,000 years ago. Please note: It is recommended that guests wear flat, comfortable shoes.

St. Anthony, Doctor To The North *

This excursion will feature a visit to the Grenfell Interpretation Center , which chronicles the inspiring life of Sir Wilfred Grenfell, the young English doctor who visited St. Anthony in 1892 and founded the Grenfell Mission. Dr. Grenfell was renowned for bringing medicine and education to the Inuit and European settlers along the harsh Labrador Coast. His adventures were required reading in eastern Canada and taught valuable lessons to rural schoolchildren. His tales of courage and charitable efforts made him a friend of American presidents and governors, as well as European royalty. You will also visit his home, where you can view the artifacts gathered from a life of Arctic adventure and global philanthropy. The name Grenfell is still associated with arctic-inspired fashions in the 21st century. Bonne Bay and Woody Point are part of the Gros Morne National Park, whose ancient landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bonne Bay has two sections - Inner Bonne Bay and Outer Bonne Bay. Inner Bonne Bay has two arms with wooded coves and beaches. Outer Bonne Bay is the entrance to the Bonne Bay fjord. This bay was carved out approximately 10,000 years ago and is an area full of wildlife - moose and caribou, Arctic hare and ptarmigan.

Bonne Bay, The North Coast of Gros Morne

Explore the north side of this UNESCO World Heritage Site . Your stops will include the Lobster Cove Lighthouse which will introduces you to the first peoples of North America and the history of the local communities including some famous local shipwrecks. Newfoundland's geological history will come alive at Western Brook Pond where you will look inland at the raised fjord that was carved by the sea and filled by the ocean a mere 15,000 years ago. You will have many opportunities to enjoy the scenery - including Gros Morne Mountain - and to learn about the history and geology of our planet together with the fishing culture of Newfoundland and Labrador. If time allows, you will also visit the Bonne Bay Marine Science Centre for some wonderful up-close looks at life in the ocean off Gros Morne. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Bonne Bay, Journey To The Center Of The Earth

Woody Point on the south side of Gros Morne National Park provides easy access (10-minute drive) to the Gros Morne's Discovery Centre (primary interpretation centre). An additional 10-minute drive will take you to the Tablelands which is the landform that gave the park its UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. You will walk on the Tablelands trail looking at its unique physical nature and also looking at the distinctive plants that make this landform home. You will also get a great view of Gros Morne, the mountain the park was named after. A Parks Canada Interpreter will join you at the Tablelands to ensure that you get to hear about this region's unique geology. The Discovery Centre features exhibits that tell the story of the region's many geological highlights. After the morning excursion, you will return to the pier in Woody Point and go back on board the yacht for lunch while the yacht repositions to Norris Point. Guides and buses will then reposition to Norris Point on the north side of the park to meet you for the afternoon excursion. Please note: Guests are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes. This port call will require a tender/Zodiac landing at the community dock. There is a port fee that the Harbour Master will want to discuss with the Ship's Agent. Because of the limited supply of buses in the region (and short distances) passengers shuttle between the various stops using school buses.

Halifax, Halifax & The Titanic Connection
