In this enchanting city the past and present intersect in perfect harmony. Casually intermingled among ancient ruins and majestic cathedrals are the trappings of a modern metropolis: Skyscrapers,cafes, boutiques selling designer footwear. But of course what you seek first in the heart of Rome is its breathtaking history.  A good place to begin is the Vatican, with its Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Works by Bernini, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Raphael are just a few of those on display, any one of which is worth hours of contemplation. Then the ancient ruins-Colosseum, Forum, Circus Maximus. And of course the Trevi Fountain for the obligatory coins promising your return to the Eternal City.

The popular tourist spot of Calvi with its crescent-shaped bay and gorgeous beaches, is distinguished by a large medieval citadel that overlooks the marina.  Built between the 13th to the 16th centuries, it is basically an entire small town enclosed by fortified walls but offering panoramic views of the harbor and the Corsican coast. Another must-see is the "Big Pink Church," Orthodox-style L'Eglise Santa Maria and  make time to take a walk along the Quai Landry esplanade, lined with interesting restaurants.

Rome Orientation Tour w/ Transfer to Hotel *

This tour is perfect for those who would like to visit Rome but do not feel like walking the cobblestone streets. You will meet the local guide at disembarkation and board a coach for Rome to start the tour with Via Veneto, which became popular in the 1960s as the heart of the "Dolce Vita" of Fellini's Cinema, Castel Sant' Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica and Square, the monumental square surrounded by four sets of 284 columns on 88 pillars. It is the masterwork of Bernini and welcomes pilgrims to the largest temple in Christianity. The dome was designed by Michelangelo. Your tour will continue to the Ostiense Gate,right next to the amazing Pyramid of Caio Cestio, built in 12 B.C., and the Baths of Caracalla, the second largest spa in ancient Rome. Then you will head to the Circus Maximus, which could welcome 320,000 spectators who watched chariot races there. Pass by the Colosseum, constructed in only 8 years, where over 70,000 spectators could take a seat and leave the building in only a few minutes through its 80 entries. Your tour also includes The dome of the basilica was designed by Michelangelo . Your drive will continue to St. Paul's Basilica Outside the Walls, where you will have free time to explore on your own. The coach will wait for you in the vicinity to return you to the Windstar Cruises hotel. Please note : There are 3-4 steps to enter and exit the coach and a few steps in St. Paul's Basilica. If you are not staying at the Windstar hotel you will be dropped of at the Piazza Repubblica where many taxis are available to take you to your independent hotel.

Portoferrario, Cable Car and Mount Capanne

Depart from Portoferraio pier for a scenic drive that will take you to the Island Highlands on the west side. The drive cuts through the center of the island continuing along the coast to reach the upscale resort town of Marciana Marina and then into the hills to reach the cable car station. Meanwhile, enjoy the beautiful scenery down to the coastline and the surrounding hilltop villages. During the drive you'll learn about the history of the island, the culture and the local nature. Your journey from Bastia will lead inland to Oletta - a small village terraced up the hillside, and from where there is a lovely view of Saint Florent and over the countryside of olive groves, vineyards, and pastures - small squares of property delimited by dry stone walls. Then the road climbs up to the San Stefano Pass, through chestnut and olive groves, and from there is a spectacular panorama down to the east coast and the Biguglia "étang" (pool) and in the other direction, across the Agriates Desert and the sea at Saint Florent. You will climb a sinuous, narrow road, up to the Teghime Pass, where at an altitude of 1,759 feet ( 536M), the views are completely different in each direction . To the West: over extensive vineyards right to the gulf of Saint Florent. To the South: across mountains and valleys towards the chestnut forests of the Castagniccia. The East: past Bastia and the sea leading to Italy. Finally North: the mountainous backbone of the Cap Corse. The road turns and twists its way down to Patrimonio, offering picturesque views background. Patrimonio village is dominated by its church and high steeple (built in 1749). Calvi, A Visit To Calvi *

Calvi is an attractive town in an idyllic location between the sea and the mountains. As you explore, you will learn about Calvi's history, from its origins as a humble fishing village to a mighty Genoese stronghold, and now its current status as a picturesque vacation getaway. With your guide, begin your walking tour as you head to the entrance of the citadel perched on a rocky hill overlooking the port. You will cross the drawbridge and stop to enjoy a breathtaking vista of the red rooftops and the crystal-clear sea. Continue to the Place d'Armes and then to the St. Jean Baptiste Cathedral set at the highest point of the promontory. The cathedral, founded in the 13th century, was partially destroyed during the Turkish siege in 1553 and rebuilt in the shape of the Greek cross. Your walk will take you to the home of Calvi's most famous son, Christopher Columbus, born in Calvi on October 12, 1451. After viewing the exterior of this fabled building, you will pass the 13th century Caserne Sampiero, formerly the Governor's palace and now a military building. Make your way to the Oratoire St. Antoine to admire its Italian frescoes, then stroll along the city's ramparts and wander through the Ville Basse. Mahon, Off Roading Menorca *

This is an off road adventure on 4x4 jeeps following interior and hidden paths You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will explain each site are visiting. You will see the old quarry of Mares of Santa Ponça . The "mares" is the stone with which the majority of the houses of Menorca, the historical palaces and the churches of Ciutadella, Mahon Alaior and Ferreries are built out of. You will travel through Sa Roca's Wood , a beautiful big woods from where it's possible to enjoy an amazing view. You will see Santa Teresa's private farm , a typical Menorca farm where you will stop and have a snack of typical local products (cheese, ham, wine, fruit and vegetables) and have a rest. Then you will head to Cavalleria's Lighthouse situated at the very north point of the island.The view is amazing and it's possible, as well to visit a little cave from where the view is even more interesting and spectacular. Next stop will be the red sands of Cavalleria's Beach . You will spend a hour here to have a relaxing and refreshing moment before going back to the hotel. Please note : This is an adventure tour and the itinerary is mostly off-road. A good amount of bends, hairpin curves, off-road trails are planned in the route, and for this reason it's not suitable for pregnant women as well as guests with reduced mobility or back issues. Mahon, Sightseeing North, South & Mahon *

Depart the pier for the approximately 20-minute drive through the fertile north countryside to the fishing village of Fornells a picturesque fishing village, set on a magnificent bay of the same name. An important harbor in days gone by for ships to take shelter from the strong north winds, today this village is now a pleasure ground for watersports which include windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. Fornells is also very well known locally for its fish restaurants and the King of Spain is among the many famous people who come here to eat the Menorcan Caldereta, a dish based on local lobster. Your tour will continue to the largest sandy beach on the island, Son Bou Beach which backs onto the open countryside and is relatively undisturbed in terms of modern development. However, there are still some hotels, holiday complexes, a few shops, bars, restaurants, and a discotheque nearby. Upon arrival, a brief photo stop will be made at this scenic locale. Return to Mahon where you will leave the coach at the main square and walk downhill back to the harbor through the center of town. The walk through this attractive town gives one a glimpse of the different phases in the island's turbulent history, and the many architectural styles reflecting the frequent changes of rule. The center offers an interesting mix of narrow streets lines with whitewashed houses, wide open squares and grand historical buildings. Please note : This tour requires a moderate amount of walking and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Mahon, Ancient Sites - A UNESCO Partner Tour *

This tour will offer the opportunity to visit several archaeological sites of the Talayotic culture of Menorca , a candidate to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021. In addition, Menorca has already been declared a Biosphere Reserve back in 1993 by UNESCO. The chosen archaeological sites are set in very well preserved rural and natural environments , currently managed as farms. The first visit will be in the prehistoric village of Cornia Nou, located near Mahón city. Different talayots -like towers- and temples were built on a little hill. You will have the opportunity to see several monuments ranging from the Bronze Age to the Romanization of the island. You will make a stop in a local cafeteria to have a snack. Then, visit the site of Rafal Rubí (Alaior), an emblematic bronze age funerary monument, unique of the island of Menorca. You will see the funerary chambers and the funerary rites will be explained by an archaeologist. Visit the taula temple enclosure of Trepucó (Mahón). Here you can see the talayot, like a big tower built with large cyclopean stones, and behind it, you will admire a large taula and a beautiful sanctuary surrounded by a 18th century defensive wall, made by the Spanish army when Saint Philips Castle was besieged by the Spanish troops in the year 1782, when the island was under British goverment. The prehistoric wall that is surrounding the village was remodeled and improved, following canons of the influence Carthaginian fortification. Also, a magnificent talayot -a big prehistoric tower- can be seen at this site which stands out as having one of the most spectacular taula sanctuary enclosures. Upon arrival in Fornells, you will have some free time for photo taking before heading to Monte Toro , the highest mountain of the island (1,171 feet) where you will admire both magnificent sights of the island and will also have the chance to visit the small chapel dedicated to the "Monte Toro" Virgin. Leaving Monte Toro, you will continue to Sant Patrici, a charming little town famous both for its beautiful views and the locally produced cheese (a strong tasting variety, mahonés, that delights people from all over the world). You will have a chance to taste the products. You will visit the Museum of Menorca dating from 1889. The actual building is a Franciscan Convent from the 15th century with a beautiful courtyard. The museum gives an overview of Menorca's interesting history. Time permitting you will be offered the possibility of tasting another great local product - free of charge -, the alcoholic drink known as Gin Xoriguer, the Mahon brewed, version of the "conventional" Gin. This is often tasted with lemonade in a cocktail known as "pomade" and is very commonly drunk by locals. Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands and lies on the southeastern coast of Mallorca Island. A wealth of architectural highlights awaits you. Board your coach and travel to your first stop at the circle-shaped 14th century Bellver Castle , one of the world's very few rounded castles and the only one of its type in Europe. Built in military-influenced Gothic style, it lies atop a hill affording expansive panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside. You will travel on to the handsome 13th century La Seu Cathedral , which presides over the city and is one of Europe's finest examples of pure ecclesiastic Gothic architecture. After exploring the Cathedral's interior you will view the exterior of the adjacent Almudaina Palace . This austere palace was originally an Arab fortress and later the palace of Majorcan kings. There are approximately 100 steps from the coach parking area to the La Seu Cathedral. Leaving the pier by motorcoach, you will head to the city on a panoramic drive towards the main venues before getting to the bike shop. Be outfitted and get a briefing before heading out to explore Valencia's old & new. Passing the Turia Gardens and heading towards the Serrano Bridge and Towers the main entrance for the old wall part of Valencia. Inside you will be seeing the Cathedral and Plaza de la Reina , the narrow streets of the Old Town and the Central Market, an enormous metal, ceramic tile and glass Art Nouveau building built in 1928, with its 1,300 stalls of fresh fish, meat and fruits, selling products from all over Spain. Then see the spectacular façade of the Silk Exchange, a late Valencian Gothic style civil building which dramatically illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities. It was built between 1482 and 1548, and declared an UNESCO site in 1996; nowadays it is one of the principal tourist attractions in the city. Then you will cross the "De la Mar" Bridge, heading to the "City of Arts & Science" complex (CAC), along the former bed of the River Turia, this complex was designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. The City of Arts and Sciences is a unique complex devoted to science, technology, nature and art joining together the Hemisfèric, the Umbracle, the Príncipe Felipe Sciences Museum , the Oceanogràfic and the Palau de les Arts. Bike by in the complex's gardens and once finished you'll drop your bikes off at the shop and will be taken back by motorcoach to the pier. Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina , in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street , the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square , at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Malaga by Segway *

Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina , in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street , the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square , at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church , built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You'll also visit the Roman Theatre , discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you'll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion , Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque , before returning to Marina Square. You will board the motor coach for the 30-minute drive to Cap Spartel , one of the promontories projecting into the waters of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. From here, you will drive to the town of Asilah , which is situated approximately 1 hour from Tangier on the northwestern tip of Morocco's Atlantic coast. Tangier, Tetouan UNESCO World Heritage *

Tetouan is a Berber name which literally interpreted means "the eyes" and figuratively "the water springs." The town features a fort, squares, mosques, fountains, taverns, and one of the Kings palaces. You will depart by motor coach on a guided orientation drive through the city of Tangier en-route to Tetouan, an hour away. You will start your tour at the old Royal Palace, a 17th century building which is itself a reflection of the Hispano-Moresque architecture. The palace is closed to public entry but its main ornate gate Bab Er-Rouah can give you a mental idea of what is beyond. Hassan II Square is situated where the historic and modern parts of the city converge to create the heart of the town.
