17 Nights on Star Legend

How do you describe an itinerary where every port is a star? All the Scandinavian “musts” are here – half-timbered houses, charming small villages where most cruise ships don’t visit, stunning Norwegian fjords. But there’s so much more. Discover the dunes of the Lithuanian Sahara, a Danish vineyard, Norway’s forest nymphs. A World War II concentration camp, Cold War missile silos, a Viking warship, a rock church. In Gdansk, Poland, explore the roots of Solidarity, and a town where weathervanes seem to cluster together like schools of fish. All this mixed up with delicious microbreweries, exhilarating outdoor adventures, and shops that entice with everything from honey-colored amber to colorful Dala horses.

Gdansk's Old Town was lovingly reconstructed after World War II. Take your time admiring massive red-brick churches and searching for the perfect memento in amber shops. This is also the home of the Solidarity movement, the beautiful Lake District, and Malbork Castle, Europe's largest gothic fortress.

Gdansk, Stutthof Concentration Camp

Located around 30 miles from Gdansk, Stutthof Concentration Camp was the first camp created by the Nazis outside Germany. The first prisoners arrived here on September 2, 1939, exactly 250 Polish citizens and prisoners of war. Not long after that, only two weeks later, there were around 6,000 prisoners. Most of them were executed by the SS- the plan to annihilate the whole Polish intelligentsia of Pomerania was the main reason why the camp was established. It was also the main place in the fight of the Nazis against the Poles who refused to sign an application for joining the German nationality list.. Today, the mission of the museum is to take care of the remains of the former Stutthof camp, preserving knowledge about the period between 1939-1945 in Pomerania and memory about prisoners of Stutthof. You will have 2.5 hours at the camp/museum before returning to your ship. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Gdansk, Malbork Castle

Malbork Castle is the most complete and elaborate example of the Gothic brick castle complex in the characteristic and unique style of the Teutonic Order. What is more, in 1997 it was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNSECO . Much of the original structure survives at Malbork to testify to the high standards and outstanding quality of the workmanship practiced in the region throughout the 14th century. Construction along the Nogat River commenced in 1274, with the Teutonic Knights creating this massive stone fortress that includes formidable defensive walls, towers, a labyrinth of chambers, dungeons and wonderful architectural details. In 1309, the Knight's headquarters moved there from Venice, furthermore when in 1466 both castle and town became part of Royal Prussia, a province of Poland, it served as the royal residence of Polish kings for the next 300 years. Extensive conservation works of the castle were carried out in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Following the severe damage that it incurred in the final stage of World War II, the castle was renovated once again. Nowadays, the castle serves as a museum with grand exhibition halls, which display collections of armory, ceramics, sculptures and spectacular Baltic amber. You will depart the pier for the 75 minute drive to Malbork where you will spend 2.5 hours in this delightful setting. Please note : This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Bornholm, Flavors of Bornholm

This tour will allow you to sample some of the flavors of Bornholm - including herring, wine and beer. You will start your tour with a drive through the lush countryside to the Lille Gadegård Vineyard - a very idyllic place close to the town of Åkirkeby . The vineyard, founded in 1995, is the largest in Denmark. It started by producing strawberry wine and first harvested grapes in 2002. You will get a tour of the premises, and finish with a wine tasting. Next stop is the charming village of Svaneke , located on the east coast of Bornholm, where we will stop at Svaneke Brew House , located in an old merchant's house dating back to 1750. Here you will see the beer making process and, naturally, enjoy a taste as well. Then back toward the fishing village of Gudhjem . Literally meaning "Home of God," this quaint village of only 780 permanent residents clings to the side of a rocky bay on the north eastern side of the island. Gudhjem was the first place to start smoking and exporting herrings - a tradition that was to become the "signature delicacy" of the island. Step inside Gudhjem smokehouse and enjoy a traditional smoked herring with bread andbeer. After Your gastronomic experience, return by foot to the tender jetty or stay in town at your leisure. Please note : There are steps at the smokehouse and the brewery, uneven gravel and grass at the vineyard.

Bornholm, Meet the Nature

The natural world on Bornholm is the main reason why many people choose to visit the island and nature on Bornholm is truly unique! You will meet with your local guide at the pier. You are now ready to start this walk, which is possibly the most beautiful walk along Bornholm's coast. You will start to follow the rocky path north around Salene Bay to "Helligdommsklipperne ." Through the millennia, the surf at this location has eroded the rocky coast and created deep gorges into the mountain. Now standing high and proud are the sharp cutting edges, rugged granite columns and steep rock walls with deep corridors and caves - so-called "ovens" that make up Helligdomsklipperne. The path will take you past "Hestestenene," the horse stones, which are three monoliths that act as navigation marks on the edge of a cliff 112 feet above the sea. You will continue through natural fores t with the bay on one side and steep cliffs on the other - ending by the rugged rock formations - Helligdomsklipperne. Here you have a chance to climb down a ladder to get a better overview of the rock formations and to get closer to the water. Then you will continue up to the Art Museum, where a well-deserved refreshment, of your own choice, will be enjoyed. You now have the choice to stay seated and enjoy the view or to have a look around the museum before returning to the pier by bus. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes and comfortable clothing. Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen if sunny. In case of rain, guests should wear raingear or to bring an umbrella. Extra water is also recommended.
